There are a lot of decisions in a custom home. We'll bring you the ones worth your time, along with what each option costs, and take care of the rest ourselves.
New Construction Homes in Atlanta, Start to Finish
Ground-Up Construction With Uncompromising Craft
We work as home building contractors and remodelers, and we've spent most of our twenty-five years inside existing houses. That shows up in how we build new ones. Renovation work tells you where water gets in, which framing decisions make a future change expensive, and which finishes don't hold up. We build new construction homes in Atlanta with all of that in mind, and we still take on custom home renovations in houses we didn’t build.
Design and construction sit with one team here. Your drawings get made by people who know what our carpenters can build and what the site allows, so the plan you approve is the plan that gets built.
Build on Your Lot in Atlanta, or Find One First
If you already own the property, the first conversation is about the lot: grade, trees, drainage, setbacks, and what the slope does to the foundation cost. All of that shapes what we can put on the site and what it costs to get it out of the ground.
What Working With Our Custom Home Builders Looks Like
If you're weighing home construction companies, here's how ours runs. You get a budget range early, before the design is finished, then a fixed fee design agreement, then a construction schedule showing when each trade arrives. During the build, we send regular updates and keep a written record of every decision we need from you.
At the end, we walk through the house together, build a completion list, and work through it before closing out. Labor and materials carry a 12 month warranty.
Where We Build
Metro Atlanta and Lake Oconee. As a custom home builder in Atlanta, we've worked in Milton, Buckhead, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Marietta, Decatur, and College Park, on tight in-town lots and out on acreage. For homeowners comparing luxury home builders in Atlanta, one thing stands out: most of our clients came to us through a neighbor or a referral, not an ad.
Wherever you are in the new home build process, whether you own the lot or you're still looking, contact us to learn more about what a custom home build looks like for you!

"Excellent builders. Great communications. We love working with Artisans"
"We were referred to them by a trusted friend and realtor. Overall a great experience from start to finish for our master bath remodel! Top notch attention to details and quality renovation. A added bonus was how they prep for renovation and cleanup, never had to be concerned with that during the project. Definitely consider using them! They also have a branch at Lake Oconee if you have a place there too."
"What a great experience working with Matt and his team! They exceeded our expectations with their professionalism, high quality of work, clear communication and how easy they were to work with. They finished on time and on budget. Would definitely use again!"
"We chose Artisans of Atlanta for a major renovation (kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, expanded square footage) and are very happy with our choice. Our project manager, Preston, was a wonderful communicator. We always felt like we knew what was going on with our project and all questions or concerns were addressed quickly. Like any renovation of an older home, there were some surprises a long the way, but we felt that they were managed professionally, effectively and efficiently. Our overall timeline was as predicted, and the final outcome is beautiful and solid. We are very happy customers."
"We could not be happier with our kitchen renovation! They walked us step by step through every process and really did all they could to do an expert job in a timely manner. All of the professionals we worked with seemed to truly care, and it made the stressful process of going through a renovation less stressful! Have already recommended them to our friends."
"Artisans is a great company! They recently did a lot of work on our home. I strongly recommend using them for all of your construction needs! Matt, Daniel, Tyler, Preston, and the rest of the team was a pleasure to work with. They do an incredible job! I’ll never use another company, in fact we will be using them soon for our kitchen and home office renovation! I’ve been in construction most of my life and I don’t think you’ll ever find a better a better crew. They also have some incredible finish carpenters. Thank you Artisans!"
"Thanks Matt and team!! Great team to work with from design to finished product. They turned our house from a very boring entrance to a wonder place to sit after a long day at work. Highly recommended."
"Anyone looking for a contractor who is honest & reliable who will do the job right, please seek out Artisans of Atlanta. They just completed a whole house remodel for us and we are completely delighted with the results. We can't say enough good things about the crews and the experience - they are aces."
"The portico that Artisans of Atlanta added to my home was done in a very professional manner. From my first phone call with Matt through to completion the process was done without any issues. Definitely using them again for more projects."
"We had a wonderful experience with Artisans of Atlanta. The final product speaks for itself. We came to them with a tall order; to completely demo and build back our kitchen with an updated look that was also optimized for functionality. We not only love the finished product, but glad that through the minor bumps along the way, that they were ironed out with professionalism and attention to detail. I highly recommend Artisans of Atlanta for your home renovation project."
"Artisans of Atlanta did a major renovation for us in 2004, a minor one in 2015 and countless projects in between. All work was done very well and they are extremely responsive, easy to work with and they make sure all work is done to our satisfaction. Cannot recommend them highly enough."
"AOA and project manager David ,completed a kitchen remodel for us. It was a great experience! A few reasons why I would definitely use them again:
- Owner Matt was great to work with from the original meeting and Quote to final payment. A few additions were added throughout project and Matt quickly added changes and detailed quotes on those additions each week.
- Introduction to project manager, David and process prior to beginning of work..."
"Every home owner knows how difficult it is to find a quality contractor. Truly, It is very rare that I meet another home owner who is actually willing to recommend a contractor who had previously worked on their home. Prior to meeting Matt I myself would never feel comfortable recommending those who had worked on my home previously..."
"Great crew from beginning to end. We made several mid-stream changes in our plan. Artisans personnel were delightful even when we threw them some curves."
"Matt and his team renovated our kitchen, powder room, and master bath beginning in March of this year. In spite of the disruption from the pandemic, Artisans completed the job on time and on budget. Their carpenters and painters have an attention to detail that is not easy to find in the industry. At the end of each day the job site was neat and tidy. We moved into a spotless, practically new, old home. Perfection! Thank you Artisans."
"We could not be more thrilled with our renovation, second story addition and contractor management process. Matt and his team are professionals in every way and his kind manner made him a joy to work with. We would use him twenty times more and highly recommend. We came with an idea, and he built us a dream home. We are so thankful."
"Matt and his team are fantastic to work with. We had weekly meetings with our construction staff which were so helpful and important when managing the process. It is very rare to find a humble guy that does such great work. Everyone in our neighborhood was so impressed with his work that he has already gotten other jobs in Historic College Park. He gets old homes, new homes and everything in between. I would use him again in a heart beat."
"After interviewing 10 home remodeling companies and reviewing the quality of their work, we new that Artisans of Atlanta was the right company for our project. Everyone wants the three things when it comes to renovation, cheap, fast and good but realistically you can only get two of the three. We wanted fast and good and we were extremely pleased with the quality, timeliness of our project. The professionalism of the employees provided was excellent. We had no qualms about Artisan working in our home while we were away. They cleaned up after every day’s work which made it easier for us to live through the renovation. We would recommend them to anyone and would use them again on future projects."
"Mr. Johnson is a thorough professional. Extremely customer focused focus, cares about your wallet as much as you do, attentive to detail and seamless execution. Worked on several projects as an investor and looking forward to long term working relationship. Quality of work - 5 stars Professionalism - 5 stars Timeliness - 5 stars Scope of work - defined in detail and no creep. Pricing - 5 stars"
"Our kitchen remodel went very smoothly. The subcontractors that Artisans used were excellent. They arrived when they said they would, preformed top quality work, and kept the work site clean. The owner, or a representative of Artisans, stopped by the site every day to make sure that project was going as planned. The project was competed in the time schedule promised. My kitchen is now a show piece of the house."
"We hired AOA to complete a kitchen remodel for us. We were new to Atlanta and had received a recommendation to use them through a friend who knew Matt. As expected in any type of renovation we did have a few hiccups but Matt and his team resolved every issue with ease and professionalism. We are so happy with our new space!"
"Very nice basement remodel! Finished very close to when they expected to be finished with the project and worked hard to get it finished within our required (and changing) deadline. Beautiful finished basement with lovely bathroom, bedroom, and beautiful kitchenette that we have greatly enjoyed already!"
"We loved our experience with Artisans of Atlanta. The owner, Matt, and our project manager, David, did an awesome job on remodeling our master bathroom. The work quality was excellent and they stayed within the budget that was set in the beginning. They helped us decide what would work well in our space and their designer, Tori, helped us make the space look absolutely gorgeous with her special eye for detail."
"I contracted AOA to help me transform my newly purchased 1950 bungalow into a contemporary 2-story modern home and the results are absolutely incredible. I have so many random people coming up to the house asking to take pictures. I'm especially happy with Matt's attention to details at every step of the project. I also appreciate his being always happy to work with me on the many and many plan changes I keep making. I would hire AOA for any future home projects without second thoughts."
"Artisans of Atlanta is an extremely professional organization that provided communication throughout the job which was over 6 months long. This was an extensive remodel project that had some obstacles, but the transparency and being honest about the challenges made any issue disappear quickly. The entire team and most especially our on site project manager were terrific. We are planning "phase 2" in the next year and I will definitely use this company again."
"I have recommended them to several people. Actually, I didn’t have to recommend them. So many neighbors watched our house being renovated/second story added that they contacted Matt themselves."
Nora H.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed our new bathrooms this past year. Even though we had problems with missed deadlines for completion date and missed communications related to our architectural plans, the final product is beautiful and very functional. Artisans of Atlanta did a good job overall."
"We were delighted with the professional performance of Artisans of Atlanta. Their workers were the cleanest and most polite of multiple contractors we have worked with. There was no foul language and all not only were competent, but were excellent craftspeople."
"Matt was very easy to work with. He always took the ideas from my wife & I and made them possible. He and his team truly wanted us to be happy with their work and make our dreams come true."
"I was referred to Artisans by a neighbor. They were honest, reliable and the staff that they brought in were of the same caliber. Our on site manager was the best. He kept all of the subcontractors in line and treated this renovation as if it was his own home. He is a keeper and we will use Artisans again."
"I've been using Artisans of Atlanta for a long time, and I've always found that the quotes are good, the work is always consistently excellent, and I never even have to think about it when I use them for a project."
"Matt Johnson did a very good job of supervising/managing/coordinating the project. We have a very high comfort level working with Matt. The quality of work performed was outstanding and we are very happy with the overall project. Would definitely recommend Artisans of Atlanta to friends, family and acquaintances."
"We’ve had them do 3 major remodels in our house. We have recommended them to 2 people that have used them and one other person that they’re working with now. I’ve never had any work done as beautifully before. Matt is always receptive and willing to listen, and trying to please to top the list. If he doesn’t know he will find out. Aaron and John are superb craftsmen!"
Yes, we do not provide an inventory of lots. If you are searching for property, we can refer you to one of our trusted realtor partners to help find the perfect spot. Once you’ve purchased the land, we'll guide you through site suitability and any zoning considerations.
The lot affects the cost as much as the house does. Site work on a steep in-town lot can run more than a kitchen. We'll give you a range early, based on the size and level of finish you're describing, and update it as the design comes together.
On average, custom home builds take 12–18 months, depending on size, design complexity, and permitting timelines. We'll provide a detailed project schedule once your design is finalized.

Yes, and it's still most of what we do. Renovations, additions, and whole-house remodels across metro Atlanta.

The renovated primary bath is where this project really shines. Soothing green accents give the room a calm feel, and a standalone tub makes it a true in-home spa experience. The kitchen proves a full renovation isn't always necessary to transform a space. Preserving the original cabinetry kept the home's character intact, while new finishes brought the room up to date without losing what made it special.

After a tree fell on the back of this Buckhead home, the homeowners saw an opportunity not just to repair the damage, but to reimagine the entire space. In addition to rebuilding the rear of the home, our team added a new cocktail lounge, dining room, and reimagined primary suite and kids' bedrooms. We also expanded the basement, digging out space for new windows along the front of the home to bring in natural light, and adding a basement bedroom and home gym. Throughout the project, our focus stayed on preserving the character and flow of the home the family already loved.

The owners of this home were ready for a more modern kitchen and living room, but they didn't want to lose the warmth that made the house feel like theirs. We worked with them to open up the layout so the two rooms flow together, and we updated the finishes and lines throughout to give the space a cleaner, more current look. The finished rooms are easy to live in and great for having people over, and the project was featured in Atlanta Style and Design magazine.

This spacious home was constructed in the late 1930s and has a classic charm. We collaborated with the owners to design an updated kitchen as well as a screened sun porch to suit their style and needs. From granite countertops to an accent decorative hood to upscale pendant lights, the kitchen is now improved with modern upgrades while still staying in touch with the home’s traditional style. This renovation touched some of the most-used spaces in the home. We designed and built updates that tie the kitchen and wet bar together, so cooking, serving, and entertaining all work smoothly in one connected area. Originally built in 1948, this home has an old charm worth holding onto, it still has all the best aspects of an older home’s character highlighted, but Artisans of Atlanta helped this home’s kitchen and bathroom reach a new splendor. The design centered on a classic and clean style which would be modern yet timeless to blend with the home’s original structure and style. The updated storage set up makes the kitchen appear larger based upon the light color palette, the open shelving, and the glass inset cabinets. The backsplash truly became the focal point of the kitchen. The pattern of the tile placement and the variation of the light-colored tiles draws the idea and unifies the overall kitchen design. We also implemented updated light fixtures, hanging, and recessed. Better lighting helps the kitchen feel larger and cleaner. Beyond just the aesthetic appeal, the oversized rectangle sink is incredibly functional. Having a large sink and ample counter space make this kitchen ideal for culinary adventures. By using quartz countertops, the kitchen appears to stretch on infinitely. This design concept truly is the full package in terms of function and visual appeal. The bathroom is truly striking with a wallpaper accent wall, a marble countertop, and updated fixtures. The color palette and sleek design exudes a relaxing vibe while appearing classic and upscale.

The master bath and bedroom in the Downington went from basic to regal charm. From the chandelier to the wall framing to the arched doorways, this master suite project communicates an upscale feel while still being tranquil. This transformation is all about the small details which truly make this master suite incredible. The charming fireplace creates a traditional focal point in the room. Our team helped incorporate modern features such as the spacious tub and glassed in shower without taking away from the traditional and almost royal style of the suite.

This large family home was greatly improved through a kitchen renovation. As the center of the home, the kitchen needed an openness and accessibility ideal for making memories with family and entertaining. The bar stool style seating encourages conversation over meal preparation. The light-colored cabinetry makes the kitchen feel more spacious. Every cabinet has been improved through modern stainless-steel hardware. The true focal point of the kitchen space is the striking modern yet industrial light fixture. Through AOA’s design, these homeowners were able to maximize their kitchen for entertaining guests, cooking together, and sharing family dinners.

All aspects of the kitchen are effectively showcased through recessed lighting and pendant accent lighting. This home was originally built in 1920. Because of the age of the home, there was natural character to the home, but it lacked some of the updates the family wanted. The home was smaller than the family needed so we designed and implemented a second-floor addition. The style of the home is classic, so the updates respect the feel of the home. With crown molding, wooden accents, recessed lighting, and updated columns, the home retains and exudes historic charm while being updated and fresh. The Artisans team worked directly with the homeowners to create the perfect blend of timeless traditional beauty and modern convenience.

With a bungalow feel, the Crescent’s unique and approachable style was furthered through the addition of a sunroom. We designed the space to flow naturally into a porch behind the home. The porch leads down by a beautiful staircase to reach the yard. Inside the sunroom, the high white ceilings with recessed lighting make the room feel bright and endless. The room also captures natural lighting through the windows and doors. We centered the design around a charming fireplace with a natural wood looking mantle. The white walls contrast beautifully with the wood flooring throughout the room. Whether entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet morning with a book, this space captures the homeowners’ vision for a tranquil space.

This 1920s home was renovated into a modern dream previously. Working with Design by Michael Nualla, we were able to add the ideal garage to suit this transformed home. You would never believe this was a 1950s home from looking at it. This home was completely remodeled based upon the design of the homeowner, David Lee. The Frazier has a unique color scheme and modern design from the outside. The sharp lines and bold windows make the home appear like something straight out of a modern art museum. On the inside, the home is bold and modern with a consistent black and white color palette. What started as a porch became so much more through our transformation. We took their porch and built it into livable indoor space. Through careful craftsmanship and design, our team was able to create a living area off the side of their kitchen. The home’s enclosed square footage was increased, and their home became a more open concept. Building off the original brick, we designed a fireplace and seating area. This transformation allows the homeowner to cook in the kitchen while still enjoying conversation with family or guests in the living area. Black framed window created a beautiful contrast against the white walls. We also added stained steps leading up into the original kitchen.

We designed a screened in porch to allow the homeowners to embrace their outdoor entertaining dreams. Since we were working with an older charming home, having a design with complementary character was needed. We added a fireplace as a focal point and a nice feature for entertaining. Combining a high wood ceiling with black framing, the ideal visual contrast was created. The high ceiling makes the porch feel airy and spacious. The sunporch compliments the home’s beauty without competing design-wise.

The Emerson home is a dream for outdoor entertaining. Although the home had some space for outdoor entertaining prior to the renovation, it was not maximized. Our team built out the 2nd level of the deck and reimagined their deck space to make it the ideal place for enjoying friends and family. From the spiraling metal staircase to the porch swing to the space for eating a meal around a farmhouse style table, the unique details of this entertainment space make it truly spectacular. The porch also allowed room for a grill space and a relaxing fire pit. Function and beauty have truly been maximized for satisfied homeowners the Lake's. Their kitchen space felt dark, closed off, and dated. The entry of their home has also been enhanced through the custom mudroom bench area, ideal for hanging up coats and slipping off shoes at the end of the day. The renovated laundry space now boasts storage space and a useful utility sink. The added office space provides crucial storage and a place to separate and be productive. This Parkwood home was already a beautiful and functional home, but the homeowners were hoping to expand and update their garage living area. By building out the 2nd story of their existing garage, our team was able to create a fully functional space which would be ideal for entertaining guests. The bathroom and kitchen have beautiful tilework which conveys a classic yet modern style. The open layout of the buildout allows for easy access to the kitchen while enjoying games or the TV. Because of the strategic design, the space could easily be used as a guest room if the homeowner desired. Although the space is relatively small, through careful planning, this entertaining space feels spacious and accommodates the needs of the homeowners. Our Artisans team was responsible for the design and construction this beautiful home.

The Artistic Dwellings home was an outdated home in a prime location, Morningside - Lenox Park. This home was a start from scratch renovation. Our team partnered with designer Michael Nualla and the homeowner to design a home which suited their modern style. Now, the exterior and interior of the home are unique and modern. The black windows contrast nicely with the white walls and features within the home. The home is also enhanced by the beautiful hardwood floors. The master bathroom was upgraded to include a large glass shower, which accommodates a tub within the glass area. The interior changes are striking, but the exterior ones are just as dramatic. The home has an outdoor fireplace area which provides the homeowner with the ideal entertaining space. Every detail of this home seamlessly conveys the homeowners’ sleek and modern style.

This home originally built in 1961 was a diamond in the rough. Although it had a solid structure and bones, this High Point home was very dated, especially regarding the interior features. Our team took this home from the 60’s to a contemporary and fresh design. The home appears fresh and spacious with white walls to contrast with the beautiful hardwood flooring. The bathrooms were completely updated, including details such as a custom glass shower and a luxurious bathtub. Throughout the home, updated cabinetry, light fixtures, countertops, and hardware dramatically shifted the feel and function of the home. The interior changes harnessed the open floor plan and clean feel that the homeowners envisioned. On the exterior, we added dormers, which dramatically changed the home inside and out. This High Point home was designed and crafted by our Artisans of Atlanta team.

For this Freedom Park home, we reimagined two spaces to fit how the family wants to live. The new outdoor area makes the most of Georgia's climate, and the primary suite was redesigned as a peaceful retreat made for unwinding.
